2. What if your child does not want to attend church: |
Biblical basis: Genesis 2:2-3, Exodus 31:12-17 "Remember the Sabbath Day and Keep it Holy," There are two aspects to this command, first is the need to set aside time to rest and get refreshed or suffer the consequences of getting caught up in the activity of life and not the purpose for life. The second is to remember Him by spending unhurried time focusing on His promises and principles. This provides us time to give Him glory and thanks for what He has done in our lives. Without time set aside, many of us get caught up in our daily activities and let our relationship and dependency drift away from God. What Church provides: There are several key elements to a time of corporate gathering. The church serves five main roles in a person's spiritual journey. First is Evangelism. It is stated that 98% of those who come to a church are brought by friends. Church provides the means to share the Gospel message with others and teaches individuals how this is accomplished. Second is Worship. Corporate worship gives us the sense of unity and singleness of purpose as we come together in music, song and prayer. It is a great time Sunday Mornings to remember our dependency on Him. Third is Fellowship. God never meant for us to travel our spiritual journey alone. Church provides us opportunities to establish friendships that encourage and inspire us in our Christian walk as we come in contact with other believers. Fourth is for Spiritual growth. Our Biblical understanding grows through teaching/preaching enabling us to become more like Christ and to be wise in our contacts with both believers and non-believers. This is the time we focus on His promises and principles. Fifth and last is Ministry opportunities. Each of us has been given gifts (Romans 12:3-8) for the uplifting of the body. Christian love is action and is expressed through serving others. Therefore, the church provides opportunities for its members to use their gifts by ministering to its constituents as well as people outside the church. |
